Leaving Tibet
Jack Bauer was indeed in China. Our packed cab going to the airport, leaving Qinghai. We rode like that in a similar taxi from the monastery in Golok to our hotel in Qinghai. Eleven hours over bumpy dirt paths, through snow and hail in the mountains, and long, empty stretches of road with very few gas stations around. Eleven hours.
The next day, we caught a flight to Beijing. Our plane was the only one on the tarmac. Not a very busy airport.
